Throughout my exploration of digital literacy I have been thinking that there should exist a process along the lines of a "close read" for video. A "close watch", if you will. Well, wouldn't you know, there's an app for that! Thanks to one of the instructors in our Master's Program (shout out to @dwmalone) I have discovered Zaption. (www.zaption.com) Zaption is a web app that allows users to turn online videos into interactive learning experiences. Images, text, quizzes and discussions can all be quickly and easily added to video content (from Youtube, Vimeo or private video libraries). The basic tool is free to use and there are analytics for instructors that show teachers how their students interact with the content and key concepts. I've been playing around with it to practice creating a "tour" as Zaption calls the videos created with the web app. I have found it to be simple and intuitive to use. The potential is absolutely endless. My next step is to begin to use the tool with my class. I haven't done that yet but I'm excited and looking forward to the opportunity to do so very soon.
